New Chassis Arrives!
The Sipesville Volunteer Fire Company was thrilled to have been awarded grant money for the purchase of a new attack unit.  The award was part of the 2007 FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant and covers a large percentage of the cost of the vehicle.  The company saw a need to replace the current squad and update the current mini-pumper.  After discussing the potential solutions it was decided that an attack truck that could serve as a rescue and a mini-pumper would be the best solution.  A truck committee was formed and tentative plans were drawn up for the new unit.  The company decided to use a Ford F-550 chassis as the platform for the custom built truck.  On Saturday, January 26 the company took delivery of the new chassis.  The chassis is a 2008 Ford F-550 with a 6.4 Liter Powerstroke engine and a 5-speed manual transmission.  The truck was purchased from Tri-Star Motors in Somerset, PA.  Bids and specs from two local companies are still being reviewed for the rescue body, but project updates will be added as progress on the new truck is made.
