The week of October 7-13 marked the annual National Fire Prevention Week sponsored by the National fire Protection Association (NFPA).  As in previous years, the Sipesville Volunteer firefighters conducted a fire drill and fire prevention program to the students of the Sipesville Elementary School on Wednesday, October 10.  Nine sipesville firefighters led an assembly teaching the students topics such as safety in the kitchen, planning home escape routes, testing smoke detectors, dialing 911, and stop, drop, and roll.  This year's fire prevention assembly was enhanced by the use of a PowerPoint slide show and a short movie.  After the assembly students went outside to learn about what it's like to be a firefighter.  The students passed through different stations where they learned about the truck and equipment, could try on a bunker coat and helmet, and had the opportunity to use a foam can fire extinguisher.  The Sipesville Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank the faculty members of the elementary school for accommodating the fire prevention program into their busy class schedules.
