November 13, 2005 |
On the afternoon of Sunday, November 13, crews from Stations 601,
602, 607, and 623 were alerted of a commercial structure fire at Somerset Art
Galleries, 152 West Main Street. 601 Assistant Chief established command
and reported heavy fire blowing from the rear of the structure. Tanker
607-2 (Trent) responded followed by Engine 4 (Madigan) and Squad 5 (Bumbarger).
607 Lieutenant requested that Station 611 (Windber) transfer into Station
607 for standby during the fire. Tanker 2 was advised to stage on West
Main, while the Engine was requested into the rear of the building. Engine
4 hit a plug on Union Street in front of the VFW and laid 225' of 5" hoseline
into the scene. Tower 601-3 was setup in the alley adjacent to the Bravo
side of the structure, however, power lines feeding the building prevented the
tower from accessing the roof. Crews from Rockwood and Listie were staged
on West Main street. 601 Asst. requested a truck from Station 3 (Richland
Twp.) and Tower 3-1 responded to the scene. Crews from 603 were also
dispatched to handle standby in Station 601. At the scene, firefighters from
607 assisted with interior attack, ventilation of the roof above the fire room,
and supplying a foam attack line from the Engine. All crews worked well
together, and the fire (deemed electrical in nature by the PSP fire marshall)
was confined to the rear addition of the structure. A special thanks to
the boys from 611 for responding their truck and engine to cover our district
while we were committed at the scene. |
