Station 607 was honored to be contacted by the Cambria County Fire Commissioner and given the opportunity to cover Summerhill Borough Fire Department (Station 86) during the funeral of Bob Gallardy.  Mr. Gallardy was a former member of the Summerhill Borough Fire Department before becoming a paid firefighter for the Altoona Fire Department.  Mr. Gallardy achieved the rank of Captain and was a state fire instructor.  His untimely death occured while he was overseeing a live burn session at the State Fire Academy.  Engine 607-4 with a crew of 5 persons handled standby in Station 86 while their members attended the funeral and burial of Mr. Gallardy.  While the Engine crew didn't have any emergency dispatches during the standby, the crew did handle traffic control and parking at the grave site.  Our deepest sympathies go out to Mr. Gallardy's family and the firefighters that he had worked so closely with.  Thanks again to the Summerhill Borough firefighters for their hospitality during our day in their station.
