October 4, 2005
During the evening of October 4, stations 624, 622, 601, and 607 were dispatched for a barn fire on Miller Road (district 622).  624 Chief established command and reported a working barn fire.  624 Chief also requested additional alarms for tankers adding 602, 623, 608, 620, 612, and 3 stations from Westmoreland and Fayette County.  Station 607 responded in full force with both tankers and Engine 4.  While we were out, station 611 (Windber) moved into our station for standby.  The barn was completely engulfed, and the flames could be seen from miles away.  A tanker shuttle was organized and Engines from 623 and 624 supplied water to various hand lines and Tower 601-3.  A bulldozer and excavator were brought to the scene to remove debris from the building.  The engine crew from 607 assisted in salvage and overhaul operations on the D side of the structure.  The fire was investigated by the State Police Fire Marshall and was ruled arson.
