September 25, 2004
On Saturday morning, September 25, Station 607 was dispatched to assist Station 601 (Somerset) with a structure fire at 2426 Coxes Creek Road.  Due to the location, Engine 607-4 was the second unit on scene and prepared to make an interior attack.  Upon arrival firefighters found a working fire in the basement of the residence.  Firefighters entered the basement from an exterior door on the B side of the structure.  One Sipesville firefighter, working on the first interior attack line, sustained a minor neck injury when he was struck in the head by an exploding aerosol can in the basement.  The explosion caused a crack approximately 4 inches in length in the firefighter's helmet, which is now displayed with the can at the fire station.  Crews knocked the fire down in under 20 minutes and contained most of the fire damage to the basement of the structure.  Somerset, Bakersville, New Centerville, and Rockwood Fire Comapnies were also on dispatched for the incident.  Somerset Area Ambulance handled transport of the injured firefighter to Somerset Hospital.  The firefighter was evaluated and later released.  A special thanks to Dave Lloyd who captured these photos of the initial interior attack.
