Stations 607 and 900 were alerted for a vehicle accident on Somerset Pike in the area of the Casebeer Church.  An updated dispatch advised that the accident was actually located just south of Lamonica's in Jenner Township.  Station 608 was added to the alarm with the updated location.  Rescue/Engine 607-4 (Carr) and Squad 607-5 (Forry) responded and were the first arriving units on scene.  Crews found two vehicles involved in a rear-end type collision in a construction zone.  On male patient was still seated in the driver's side of the red truck, but was not entrapped.  Crews stabilized the vehicles while 607 EMT's made access into the vehicle and initiated patient care.  Medic 952 arrived on scene and requested MedSTAR 1 to the scene.  Due to the patient's condition, 607 and 900 crew members rapidly extricated the driver of the truck.  After extrication, Engine 4 set out to establish a landing zone.  A field approximately 500 yards north of the scene was setup as an LZ for MedSTAR with a 3 minute ETA.  Once MedSTAR was safely on the ground, crew members assisted in loading the patient into the helicopter for transport.  MedSTAR 1 lifted without incident, and the engine crew returned to the accident scene to assist with the removal of the vehicles.  The roadway was cleared of debris and hazards before incident commander Carr released all units and reopened the roadway to traffic.
