April 29, 2005
On April 29, at approximately 1208 hrs, Station 607 was dispatched to assist Station 608 with a car fire on Somerset Pike in the area of Rich's Electric.  Station 607 had a full crew at the station when the alarm came in and Engine 607-4 responded almost immediately following the dispatch.  Engine 4 turned onto Somerset Pike and noted heavy smoke in the area of Krause Electric.  607-4 arrived at the scene to find a minivan with working fire showing from engine compartment.  Station 608 units responded to the incident, actually located in district 607, and assisted with traffic control at the scene.  Sipesville firefighters quickly knocked down the fire using class A foam and secured the scene.  The cause of the fire was determined to be a faulty battery which exploded inside the engine compartment of the vehicle.  Fire crews reopened the roadway before returning in service.
