January 4, 2010
On the evening of January 5 we were called for a barn fire just off of Somerset Pike on the Bakersville - Edie Road.  Upon arrival, the structure was fully involved.  Fire had already consumed the attached tack room and had already started into the 62' X 230' barn.  Assisted by high winds and cold temperatures the fire moved quickly while fire fighters made their way through 6 - 8 foot high drifts around the barn.  We attempted to make entrance to the barn from the sides to stop the fire from engulfing the barn.  With the cold weather, we had engines staged in our station trying to keep trucks available if an engine froze up on scene.  There was an issue with several tankers starting to freeze while staged at the township shed. While attempting to foam the round hay bails left in the barn, there was an issue with the foam system starting to freeze.  The next morning we returned for a rekindle of the hay bails which again foamed to avoid any future rekindles.
